Beautiful 18 hole golf course opened to the public in 2006. It is built on 180 acres of leased prime real estate located on the northern coast of the island of Upolu in the country of Samoa, a Pacific nation renowned for its natural beauty, pristine beaches, thriving colourful culture and friendly people. The width of the course stretches from the coastline of the vast Pacific Ocean across to the West Coast main road and partially wraps around the very tip of the Faleolo International Airport runway. The main airport itself is conveniently just a 3 minute drive away. The main coastal town and fast growing capital, Apia, is 26kms from the course. Next door is the Aggie Grey’s Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa. Adjacent on the other side is land earmarked to be leased by the Warwick International Hoteliers for a resort. 10 minutes to the south is the Le Vasa Resort. 20 minutes drive further south, along the same coastline, lie the two main filming locations for the two consecutive Survivor 2009 series, Survivor Samoa and Heroes & Villains Survivor. On one of these sites, owned by the Haleck family, one of two resorts is under construction. On the other site, just around the corner, a stunning 98 acre freehold beachfront property will soon be up for sale and will definitely attract investors to build another resort. The Le Penina Golf course is excellently located in this vicinity of existing resorts, with more resorts and hotels in the pipeline, to be utilized by their guests. Any other golf courses are located at least 25 kms drive from this part of the island. The Le Penina Golf Course is home to the SIFA Masters PRO-AM annual tournament. The course was PGA designed by the Mark Rather International Design Group and would be one of the top golf courses in the South Pacific. Sprigs of the grass type SeaIsle 2000, Certified Seashore Paspalum for putting greens were imported from Southern Turf International, Hawaii and used for all the putting greens to ensure greens of high quality. This turf has a high tolerance to tropical conditions and thrives on salt water which makes it perfect for a golf course located in a tropical island by the seashore! It is a fine textured, dark green, dense turf with a deep root system and grows well even if irrigated by recycled water. The Le Penina is not only a picturesque golf course with immaculately manicured greens and fairways, but it is challenging enough to test very talented or professional golfers with total length of 7,136 yards from the tiger tee. The course has four Par 5 holes, the longest being Hole #15, 654 yards from the tiger tee. The signature Hole #4(Par 5) is 595 yards from the tiger tee and runs parallel to the sparkling turquoise Pacific Ocean where many wayward golf balls have found their eternal resting place. The refreshing sea breezes and panoramic ocean views would satisfy any casual golfers playing this hole while the serious ones would enjoy the tough, long, narrow fairway with tall trees on one side and the ocean on the other without much space in between! Its putting green is partly surrounded by ocean with the island of Savai’i clearly visible on a clear day as well as ferries traveling back and forth between the two islands. It would indeed be a real challenge just trying to focus on a game of golf with all the scenic distractions! Hole #17 also offers close sea views and in sight close by, is the Mulifanua Wharf where the inter island ferries operate from. A natural pond lies between the fairway and putting green. Two big lakes were properly built with black liners to line the bottom and with a pump station which controls pumping water from an underground supply up into the lakes to replenish water which is pumped out into the water system which irrigates all the fairways and greens. As drinking water becomes more scarce worldwide, golf courses have to look to alternative means of watering greens and fairways, using recycled water or ocean water. The Le Penina golf course fortunately already has such an irrigation system in place whereby water is recycled and saves much on time, money and water! The lakes even have fish living in them. One lake was strategically built between Holes #10 & 14 while the other one lies squarely between the fairway and putting green of Hole #13. These lakes not only serve as effective water hazards, but they significantly enhance the beauty of the course. When the golf course was built some historical landmarks were preserved such as the gravesite of the Paramount chief Sagafili and his beloved wife, situated between Holes #4 and 5. During times of the German occupation of Samoa, huge coconut plantations were developed for the supply of copra for making fuel. Many Copra ovens were built and some remains of these ovens can still be found throughout the course. This touch of history adds an extra dimension to this already unique golf course. The cool, tranquil, idyllic surroundings, fantastic ocean views, well-maintained fairways and greens combine to create an ideal environment for all golfers, whether they are there to just pass away some holiday time or out to play some serious golf!
The present owner with a lot of vision and pioneering spirit, has invested much time, money and effort to build an excellent, top quality golf course. He is now ready to hand over this precious product to the right buyer(s) with enough business acumen to recognize the great potential for business growth and development on offer here and take it to the next level. This is a unique opportunity and the first time and most probably the last time, a golf course will ever be available for sale in Samoa! About 25 of the 180 acres were set aside for various reasons. A plot has been allocated for a clubhouse with outlook to the 18th Hole and VIP driving range. A clubhouse properly built could be hired out for weddings and other functions to bring in further income. 15 acres of land is scattered throughout the course between the fairways, left vacant for future construction of condominiums or any other form of accommodation. Some of these areas have uninterrupted ocean views! A bloc of land sits vacant at the end of the golf course which would be an ideal site for a hotel or apartments to be built, with maybe a swimming pool and tennis court. Available from this land are some ocean views and outlook to the holes where the lakes are situated. Aqua Samoa Water Sports is located next to Aggie Grey’s Resort and provides a variety of water activities for anyone. Golfing families make up an untapped market for Samoa and this property would be perfect to attract such families which specifically look for a resort or hotel with a golf course at hand. Popular white sandy beaches are only a short drive to the south at Lefaga, Salamumu, etc. Just down the road is the Mulifanua Wharf where an hour’s ferry ride will take tourists to Savai’i with its amazing blow holes, lava fields, other historical sites and beautiful beaches. Savai’i is less populated, more traditional and well worth visiting. Samoa is at present the fastest growing island in the region economically and otherwise because of its social, economic and political stability. It is a safe tourist destination. The tourism industry is Samoa's main income, aside from overseas remittances and the government recognizes this and is fully committed to its growth and development. Having a golf course of such high calibre, well placed in a growing tourist area makes the Le Penina a great asset to the tourism industry of Samoa. It is also a great plus for all competitive, promising local golfers who have a more challenging golf course of high standard to test their skills. The Le Penina can also be utilized to run international golf tournaments and consequently expose and raise Samoa's image internationally.
